The First Book of the Bird of Prey Saga
This was supposed to be an easy case…
Sémya Slotin had spent the last three years living in London with her best friend Polliannah Koch staying away from solving cases. After Hawaii, she was taking a break from puzzles, cases and mysteries that could potentially get her killed. Instead, she had been doing her second and third favorite things, drinking and selling expensive vintage wines and having earth-shattering sex with the mysterious, sexy, beautiful but ever so secretive Josh Heinz. Life in London was good….until her funds ran out. Too much wine drinking, not enough wine selling!
When fashion designer and adoptive mother, Annika Slotin, summoned her back to Paris to hire her for what Sémya considered being the easiest case of her amateur sleuth career, all she could think of and see was money signs and a well-deserved Cuban holiday once it was solved.
What Sémya didn’t see was her stumbling on the fresh corpse of supermodel Johanna Cartier. She didn’t think that male model turned fashion designer Julian Marais-Caldwin, who also happened to be Sémya’s ex, would be suspected of brutally murdering her. Johanna was his girlfriend, his muse and he loved her. Sémya didn’t see the dead bodies piling up or the conspiracy theories.
Sémya was a little rusty. But then again, it was supposed to be an easy case and she was going to solve it. One vintage wine at a time… Sémya Slotin was off
** ARC gifted in exchange for an honest review **
Had this book on my ARC list for what must be an eternity. I guess the reason I was put off by this book was the cover and i know "never judge a book by it's cover" is a timeless saying, but it never caught my eye and made me think, "I want to read this." Before I wrote this post though I did read the synopsis and the book sounds interesting so I'm looking forward to getting started on it.
This is my first book by this author.

*Whoosh!* The book so far seems to be fast paced... and not because of the action. The prologue starts in '98 about 2 characters where I think 1 sister is killing or killed off the other and then the 1st chapter is a different character who comes across as an independent goddess.

Gah! This plot and story keeps me wanting more.
The characters don't particularly have faces to me though, but the story itself keeps hooking me in with each twist!
Roll on bed time! I have an appointment with Miss Slotin!

I'm so torn with this book!
I think my main problem was the confusion. When Semya is explaining her theory's I was so completely baffled that I couldn't even see how she'd come up with them!
Semya is living in London, running a wine shop and drinking the profits. Her mother, a famous designer wants her to find out how her designs are making their way to her rival in London, who happens to be one of her Mothers ex-models and Senya's ex boyfriend.
It sounds simple until it turns into a double homicide.
Semya, having studied criminology is by Detective Ally's side, helping solve the case, along with her protective boyfriend Josh Heinz who seems to have more mystery than the case!
If the writing was tidied (which it may have been seeing as I've had this book MONTHS) the book would be amazing.
The plot is great and different.
The investigation is good and keeps you guessing and I'll hold my hands up to the fact that I judged the book by it's cover and assumed it was going to be something it wasn't
Looking forward to book 2!
